So here is a fun thing to be paranoid about; aliens land and they think you are dressed hideously because they see "black" as a bunch of different colors. The aliens themselves, of course, will be The Color out of Space, (or colors).
I don't know why I have a constant thirst for black. I never tire of it. There is not a mood that cannot somehow be captured by black. I don't trust a mood that attempts to eschew it. It must be the single most common color in high fashion. Why?
“Black is modest and arrogant at the same time. Black is lazy and easy - but mysterious. But above all black says this: "I don’t bother you - don’t bother me".”
“I imposed black; it still going strong today, for black wipes out everything else around”
Anyway, there are a million black x black x black editorials out there but I like this one because of the combination of clean lines and forlorn exotica. This is by design. Augustin Teboul is described as;
An aesthetic that arises from the conception of two contrasting personalities: German-born Annelie Augustin with subtle, minimal shapes and her sophisticated mind and French-born Odély Teboul, the rather chaotic, nostalgic craftsman. source
Black is for people looking for a challenge. When working with other colors, you can get away with an imprecise silhouettes, uncomplimentary proportions, unnecessary details, uncanny textures, nonconstructive lines, and questionable shapes. These things are not as important if you are relying on color, both in dressing and in drawing. But when one cannot use the crutch of color, the eye becomes trained to see imbalances. When working with black (or any other monochromatic scheme), everything is simplified into shapes and lines.
In this collection, the shapes and lines are very interesting. I like the peculiar introduction of crocheting, and also the thick woolly fringe on the hat. I love the hats. I (oracle speaking) predict that hats are coming in, in a big way. Personally, I only have a few but once I start seeing awesome ones like this coming into the market at a nice price point, I will expand my collection. I love the leather gloves with the knit detail (possibly a DIY, connect arm warmer with gloves). I like to think of myself as someone who comes up with outfits using my third eye, but who am I kidding, I will be taking some cues from this collection this fall.
