The best time to do all the sight seeing there is to see, is in the absense of tourists in a blissful photographing frenzy. I have nothing against tourism in principal, as it is an ancient form of entrainment but they can be distracting sometimes. I went to Worms today to see the cathedral. Worms is not particularly impressive otherwise. The sombre weather with a grey sky felt morbidly perfect.
The Nibelungenlied was written about Worms, it's one of the original medieval manuscripts with tales of nights slaying dragons and winning distressed damsels. Many historically significant events that played out there. There are plenty of ghosts to be conjured by the mind when one is alone to reflect on the quantity and quality of the deaths that occured there. It was one of the darkest places in the dark ages and on a gloomy day like today it felt like the melancholic past was not so distant.
